Punishment Without Crime eBook Svetlana Grinberg Arkady Grinberg Reviews
- “One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic.â€
This book is about the lives - and deaths - of a family of Russians, from pre Revolutionary days up to shortly after Stalin’s demise. (Sometimes a death is not a tragedy.)
While I have no connection with these people - their culture, religion, or troubles - by the end of the book they felt like family.
Story is well written, and feels like the real deal.
If you wish to get the feel of Russian soul, I recommend this story. - We are glad we bought and read the book.
I was expecting a family memoir, but the book is rather a novel - with a lot of heroes, a lot of events and plot twists, a lot of years covered.
I feel it's well composed and well presented.
It should be interesting for those who wants to know more about so called "Russian Jews" - their hard lives, their dedication, their tragedies and their victories.
Good Job, Arkadiy and Svetlana! - I enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and describes several generations of a family in Russia during the Czarist time and then, after the Revolution, while the USSR was in existence. Learning about the lives of the family members also helped me understand more about the Russian history. I highly recommend it.
